The Pheasant

After finishing my Stork design I decided to create a fabric with a more grown-up theme, which could be incorporated into other areas of interior design.  Again, I drew inspiration from my own home and surroundings when deciding upon a design.  I grew up on an old partridge farm and so had been surrounded by these beautiful birds when I was growing up.

I love the detail and colour in their plumage and knew as soon as I had finished embroidering my pheasant it would look stunning on fabric.

It seems that this has been a great hit and have seen some fabulous pieces being made out of our fabric. Visit our Facebook page here for regular updates on what is being made!

The Stork

I would like to introduce my first fabric:  The Stork.

As many of you may know I have two daughters, Phoebe and Matilda, and while I was decorating their nursery I had trouble finding fabric in the kind of style I had in mind.  Most fabrics for children are made in over-bright colours with unattractive designs, but I was looking for something more delicate and in the sort of shades and tones I would like in the rest of my house.

I originally made my Stork design to go into one-of-a-kind, made to order frames for birth announcements called 'Welcome to the World'.  One day it struck me whilst looking in yet in another fabric shop and having no luck that I should use my own, unique Stork design.

The feedback I have received so far has been both positive and lovely.

Be sure to check back soon as our Stork print will soon be available in blue and with different coloured backgrounds!

Inspiration

When I came up with the idea of making fabric I wanted to create something original that had never been done before.  I love texture and pattern and I have always loved drawing and colour, but my real passion has always been sewing.

I have sewn from an early age making all sorts of things, but let's just say I am not a perfectionist and, along with my dyslexia, I always seem to sew two left legs for instance!  When I was introduced to machine embroidery at the age of 14 by my textiles teacher I knew this was the thing for me.  I continued to use my trusty Bernina all throughout art college and this has now come through in the making of my fabric.

Each image is freehand drawn, painted using acrylics, watercolour, coloured pencils, wall paint - even nail varnish sometimes! - then embroidered and appliquéd using vintage scraps of fabric, before being approved and sent off to print.

I always have sketchbooks full of new ideas!
